The second week of classes are over. I have been practicing taking blood pressure on all of my friends and I think I am starting to get the hang of it. I am definitely feeling more confident. Assessment kind of freaked me out when we went over the ABCDE's of skin cancer because I noticed a mark on my skin that had 2 of the qualifications. I made an appointment to get it looked at just to be safe. Hopefully it's nothing to serious. I'm happy with the score I made on the first math quiz. I am a little confused on exactly what I need to be studying but I keep looking over my notes.
I am really loving nursing school so far :) I am super super nervous about clinicals next week!
PS
Nothing pisses me off more than when people belittle the program I am in because it's "only" an associates degree at a community college. I have worked super hard to get where I am and I think this program has just as much validity as any other nursing program out there. Although I plan to further my degree after I graduate the difference between an RN and a BSN is minimal. Is anyone else out there struggling with what to say back to people who insult the path we have chosen to take? I get super offended and don't know how to defend myself :(
I was getting nervous talking about the ABCDE’s of skin too. I kept thinking of all the spots that are on my body that might qualify. As for the belittling of TCC nursing students, I haven’t experienced that at all. Everyone I talk to seems to say it is one of the best nursing programs in Tallahassee. I would try not to let it bother you. You have earned the right to wear caribbean blue, and therefore you should wear it with your head high.
ReplyDeleteI used to get that, but not when I got into the Nursing Program, just by going to TCC. Seriously, simply tell these ignorant people that you'd like to see them do it, because I've heard numerous people tell me they got turned down at TCC and got in at FSU!....SO on that note, don't worry about what they say we're doing our thing and in the end we'll come out on top!
ReplyDeleteI agree, people have no idea what they are talking about. I tell people if I wanted to take it easy in college I would be taking the classes they take. Another thing that aggravates me is when I tell someone I'm in nursing school and they immediately say "Oh at FSU." I'm like "No, I got into a real program."
ReplyDeleteI have struggled with how others react when I say I am in a community college program too. It is hard because we have worked hard to get here, like you said, and sometimes people don't acknowledge that because of the community college label. However, I have also heard that TCC nursing students get more experience than other programs because we get to start clinicals right away and gain first-hand experience. All that really matters is that you are proud of what you are doing and that you know you are striving to be the best nurse you can be, regardless of the name of your school. Take pride in the fact that you can say you are a nursing student because that means a lot.
ReplyDeleteI've heard great things about TCC nurses, so stick to the program and don't sweat it. I am also really nervous about clinicals next week :). Good luck!
ReplyDeletePeople who think little of the program probably couldn't get in, it's one of THE best in Tallahassee.
